Squash Attacks Citing Polling on Obamacare

March 28, 2012 By Egberto Willies

Squash Attacks Citing Polling on Obamacare

imageMore polls this week show the impact of the hundreds of millions of dollars Republicans and their allies have spent messaging against Obamacare.

The reality is Americans strongly support what Obamacare does. But most have been inundated with false claims and smears about the law and haven’t heard how it impacts them or what it would mean to take it away from the millions of Americans already benefiting from it.

When they do, they come around. We need to speak better and more often about Obamacare.  Get the tools to do just that here and here.

KILLER FACTS

  • Polling would show the majority of the public approves of Obamacare if the 11-14% of Americans who don’t like it because it’s “not liberal enough” were not grouped with those who oppose what the law does.
  • Despite distortions, smears, and misrepresentations since the beginning, Americans strongly support what Obamacare does:
    • Over 60% of Americans support the individual mandate, which is really just a fee on free riders, after they learn most people would still get their health coverage through their employers and wouldn’t even be affected by it.
    • Upwards of 80% support Obamacare’s tax credits to small businesses, the law’s ban on insurance companies denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, and the easy-to-understand insurance plan summaries they’ll get thanks to Obamacare.
  • The majority of Americans still say we should give Obamacare a chance or leave it alone.
