Our 20th Occupy Kingwood was one of our most eventful Occupies this season. First of all I want to thank Nikki, Merry, and Sean for driving over from The Woodlands Texas real early to join our informational weekly rally. They came to both provide some interesting and valid points of views as well as to see how we did our own occupy in a peaceful, informative, and non-confrontational modal.

Dr. Theis had an extensive conversation with a Tea Party type that went quite well. They actually came to common ground on several issues inasmuch as they are ideological opposites. We had a neighbor who initially showed a primordial disdain for the group and shouted out “Liberalism is a mental disorder” repeatedly. He was kind enough to engage us and afterwards I am sure he had a different view of what we were all about and what we were trying to accomplish.

Nikki had an interesting poster where she equated President Obama, Mitt Romney, and Goldman Sachs and as such was advocating the direct election of Goldman Sachs as president as a joke to bring awareness to Wall Street’s influence on our body politic. Many cars stopped not knowing what to think of it. Obama and Romney the same? Does it matter who gets elected? Of course it matters who gets elected. It matters who will appoint the next three or so Supreme Court justices. It matters that Wall Street’s influence is paramount irrespective of president.

In our pragmatism we must elect a President that will best provide the possibility of changing the money dynamics. That is definitely not Mitt Romney. It is the re-election of President Obama with a strong progressive push to ensure he has the backing and the fear necessary to follow through. Of course it is incumbent to have information meetings, occupies, blogs, op-eds, etc. to educate the populace and mobilize the populace for engagement and direct political action.
