DSCN4112Our sustainable informational Occupy Kingwood completed its 22nd consecutive Occupy. We no longer do much planning. It has become an organic event. Everyone simply knows that every Saturday between 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM we meet at the corner of Kingwood Drive and West Lake Houston Blvd with civil, educational, and information signs and an attitude to civilly engage our community.

The most satisfying part of this event is that every week we either get people who stop on their way to the grocery store or some other activity or who come join us because they heard about us through the grapevine. Many go into the parking lot, park, and come out to see what we are all about. Many subsequently join us at that time or some other week down the road.

While taking some pictures and videos I overheard a conversation between two women, Stephanie Kelly and Lauren Davis. I was not able to capture it all of it but I got enough to share its essence. It was a candid woman to woman conversation that needs to be heard by both men and women. If you doubted there is an inherent woman inequality by design and culture (War on Women), this candid discussion helps give it perspective.

Professor Stephen Davis gave his perspective on the inherent aberration that allowed a company like Facebook to amass an undue 104 billion dollar capitalization. He believes in an economic system like ours only solid progressive taxation can solve the economic wealth and income disparity said aberration creates.

2012-05-19_09-00-12_42Dr. John Theis gave his weekly commentary as usual. He had a salient stat on the median income of the American that should give everyone pause. He notes that had family median income kept pace simply with the value of the dollar, that it would be closer to $90,000 as opposed to $52,000.

We are proud of our own Dr. Theis who was named Innovator of The Year. It was featured in this week’s Kingwood Observer. Dr. Theis lead not only by title or words but with his actions in our community. He illustrated the best of service above and beyond the norm. Congratulations.
