Move To Amend David Cobb & George Friday Guests on Coffee Party Radio Show While Leaving Charleston, WV Conference

July 8, 2012 By Egberto Willies

*

amend12amend1Yesterday I had both David Cobb and George Friday, two member of the Move To Amend Executive Committee on my Coffee Party Internet Radio Show Politics Done Right. You can listen to the podcast of the show here.

David discussed California’s passage of AJR 22, the resolution calling for the overturn of Citizens United. More importantly he discussed why the resolution was but an extremely small step toward our central goal, Move to Amend’s (MTA) central goal of a constitutional amendment to effectively removing money’s influence in politics by specifying that corporations are not persons and specifying that money is not speech.

David and George called into the show while traveling to another MTA event. In fact, David told us that because of the storms on the East Coast, he thought that their Charleston West Virginia would be scant. In fact, he had a mostly full house with engaged listeners. Many of the attendees were without power for over a week and they came anyway.

David recounts how a Republican activist stood up and gave kudos to the presentation. The event was held on July 6th, at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Charleston, West Virginia.

At the end of the show I asked George Friday to introduce herself to the audience and to pretty much summarize what Move To Amend was all about. Both David and George left enough material for a continued discussion of all that we are fighting for.
