imageHARRIS COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY CONGRATULATES SEIU AND HOUSTON AREA JANITORS

The Harris County Democratic Party congratulates the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and Houston area janitors on their landmark victory for Labor. A hard fought battle was won when an agreement was reached with cleaning contractors to raise janitors’ wages 12% over four years, which doubles their initial proposal.

“Today we proved that when workers join together, we have strength. This is a huge victory for janitors and so many workers. With this new contract, our families can live a little better,” said bargaining committee member and janitor, Adriana Vasquez.

We thank the many janitors for their strength, perseverance and willingness to put themselves in harm’s way to strike for better lives and fairer wages. The Democratic Party strongly supports employee’s rights to unionize and collectively bargain; and we will always stand with the poor and working class against those concerned only for the wealthiest 1%.
