Phillip’s Note of Appreciation – 2012 Harris County Democratic Party Convention

August 27, 2012 By Egberto Willies

Philip McNuttAs Chair of the recent 2012 Harris County Democratic Party Convention, I have SO MANY individuals and groups to THANK.  Whether you were a volunteer, staffer, sponsor, attendee, party official, committee member or presenter – your contributions added to the overwhelming success of our first county wide convention.

I believe everyone that attended this particular event could FEEL the ENERGY that was circulating throughout the CWA Hall on Saturday, August 25th. I felt it!

I must take a moment to acknowledge and thank a few individuals and groups, directly, that had a tremendous impact on this event.

First of all, I’d like to thank the membership of Democracy For Houston for being committed to the idea of a county wide convention for several years. In particular, Murvin Auzenne, Mary and Alan Luckey, Laura Nicol, Tom and Sylvia Gederberg, Debbie Allen and Willa White each played an integral role in developing this convention from its inception.

I’d like to thank the multitude of volunteers that pitched in to do "whatever it takes" to make this event come to life. A special shout out goes to HCDP Volunteer Coordinator, Lillian Skosberg and longtime HCDP Office Managers Karen Kaufman and Ann Porter.

Shelley Kennedy and Bobby Cohen both stepped in and helped in totally unexpected and different ways.

Wil Johnson and the entire Coordinated Campaign get a HUGE high-five for their video and their efforts throughout the day. Bet y’all didn’t know that when they were on "break" during the convention, the field organizers were making MORE phone calls to Democratic voters!

With all of the things we conjured up for event messaging, Jacob Powell continued to exhibit professionalism in his communication endeavors for the party and managed to keep a SMILE on his face!

The leadership of each of the eight Senate Districts that contributed MANY hours of pre-convention prep to fill precinct vacancies deserve KUDOS! Because of their efforts, we were able to increase the number of Precinct Chairs that were sworn in on Saturday.

Special note of THANKS to the dedicated staffers that made most of the "MAGIC" happen before, during and after the convention: Virg Parks and Claudette Johnson. I also salute HCDP Intern Caroline Giese for her contributions to her first Democratic event.

I have a HUGE, BIG, WHOPPIN’ amount of THANKS and APPRECIATION for the work of HCDP staffer, Brad Pritchett. What an incredible job he did throughout this effort… I am in awe of his SKILLS!

Lastly, I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to HCDP Chairman, Lane Lewis. It was Lane’s vision and support that propelled the idea of a Countywide Convention into a reality. For that, I am grateful. Furthermore, I thank him for the opportunity to serve as the Chair of the first Countywide Convention.

It is my hope that we build on the success of this event and continue to offer it in the future. I look forward to our party’s achievements in the November general election and in the years to come.

Phillip McNutt

Chair,

2012 Harris County Democratic Party Convention

Democrats: MAKING BETTER LIVES FOR ALL,. Not Just the Privileged Few.
