You won!A Federal court, three-judge special panel threw out the discriminatory redistricting maps drawn by the Republican-dominated Texas Legislature. The Court ruled that the maps were drawn with intentional discrimination against Texas’s Latino population and said new district lines cut the “economic guts” from congressional districts now held by African-Americans. In a striking blow against Governor Rick Perry and Texas GOP leaders, the court said the maps “have the effect of denying or abridging the right to vote on account of race or color, or language minority group.” It is important to note – before the GOP tries to paint this victory as federal judicial overreach by the Obama administration – of the three judges on the special panel, two were appointees of President George W.
