By now Senator Mitch McConnell must feel like the Wile E. Coyote of politics. He simply cannot get a real win.
This is the Senator that said the top priority of the Republican Party was to make the president a one term president. It is obvious that that did not happen. BEEP BEEP.
It is likely Senator McConnell thought with the death of Senator Kennedy and the election of a Republican replacement that Obamacare would have died. It did not. BEEP BEEP.
The TEA Party’s reign in 2010 made a Republican takeover of the Senate more probable than not. When all the stars lined up, Mitch McConnell remained minority leader as they decided to choose a list of crazies to run. BEEP BEEP.
The stars again lined up for the GOP to take the Senate in 2012. This time the TEA Party was a bigger liability. McConnell would remain the minority leader. BEEP BEEP.
It was expected that President Obama would have caved during the Bush tax repeal debate. Instead the Bush tax cuts are no more for most of the wealthy and McConnell had to go along with it. BEEP BEEP.
Ashley Judd was contemplating running against Mitch McConnell in the Kentucky senatorial race. She however decided to withdraw from the race. McConnell must have thought that was the end of it. No longer would he have to run against a celebrity with deep pockets and name recognition.
Well that was not the case. Just like Mitt Romney was caught on videotape disparaging the 47%, McConnell was audiotaped being informed on opposition research on Ashley Judd. While this is normal, the tenor of the conversations was rather embarrassing.
First he describes his potential rivals tantamount to a Whac-A-Mole game.

Sen. Mitch McConnell: If I could interject…I assume most of you have played the, the game Whac-A-Mole? [Laughter.] This is the Whac-A-Mole period of the campaign…when anybody sticks their head up, do them out, and we’re even planning to do it with the Courier here shortly, so…
The oppositional research then proceeds to make an issue of Judd’s past mental state and religion. These are subjects that any candidate must be careful with.
The story should have been Ashley Judd leaving the race allowing Senator McConnell a more conventional reelection campaign. That her withdrawal is not the story, but instead a leaked tape of the games he is playing behind the scenes, simply completes the narrative of McConnell’s success or lack thereof since the Presidency of Barack Obama. BEEP BEEP.
