It was a very long battle. Why would any politician attempt to effect a change that damages constituents’ education? Maybe Harris County Texans should all give Republican Rep. Debbie Riddle a call [512-463-0572], or drop her an email [Debbie.Riddle@house.state.tx.us], or send her a tweet [@debbieriddle] to let her know any attempt to reintroduce HB 945 will set a movement in action to permanently dethrone her from Texas politics. Her attempt to destroy the Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) would have resulted in cuts and/or tax increases to every school district in Harris County that uses the inexpensive and efficient services of HCDE.

Because of the hard and dedicated work of members of the community along with an engaged board that ensured the community was well aware of the value that HCDE is to the school districts, Riddle’s war on Harris County students was averted.

On Friday June 7th, Diane Trautman, one of HCDE’s board members/trustee had a well attended celebration of the community’s success in ensuring this organization will be here to serve for the foreseeable future. When a community decides to speak, politicians will listen lest the end of their careers.

Trustee Trautman gave the community an update on the political situation relative to HCDE. Most importantly she reiterated the purpose of HCDE and committed to continue her listening and speaking tour around the county.
