De-bug Raj Jayadev I met Raj Jayadev at Netroots Nation 2013 in San Jose California last week. He is the director of Silicon Valley De-Bug, a community organizing and entrepreneurial collective. You can read a profile of this group at New York Times here.

Mr. Jayadev wanted to get the word out that San Jose County was contemplating adopting a draconian policy similar to those implemented by Sherriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona. Specifically they want to limit communication between inmates and their loved ones to a postcard.

Mr. Jayadev stresses that communication via letters with loved ones is an integral part of rehabilitation. Absent that contact he said it is scientifically proven that recidivism and similar negative outcomes are the results as such draconian actions.
