Many Americans want to see the Trayvon Martin case as a potential learning experience. I do not think this is likely because we are so resistant to the only real solution, which involves everyone getting out of our comfort zones. The trial is probative. The attempt to make dead Trayvon Martin a stereotypical dangerous violent black thug is in full vogue. Some people attempt to assume the only reason Trayvon would have been shot is that he caused Zimmerman to do it. Many willfully attempt to make this plausible even though Zimmerman followed Trayvon as if he were a criminal—or prey. (I was Trayvon Martin the day I came to America)

- Republican War on Women continues as Texas passes Abortion Bill
The measure restricting abortions in Texas is now headed to Gov. Rick Perry’s desk, having passed as thousands of protesters who opposed the measure chanted in and around the Capitol. The crowd outside the chamber erupted after HB 2 passed with a vote of 19-11. But inside, there were none of the eruptions that helped kill the abortion bill in the first special session.

As if his efforts to all-but-ban abortion in Texas weren’t enough, now Rick Perry has vetoed the Texas version of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which would have made clear that women have the right to sue over gender-based pay discrimination and extend the time for that suit to 180 days after the last discriminatory check.

Last week, while most of the country was celebrating the Fourth of July holiday, lawmakers in North Carolina took a bill designed to combat so-called “Sharia law” and, without any notice or warning, transformed it into a massive anti-abortion omnibus bill – one that included every single abortion restriction introduced in the 2013 legislative session. The proposals include restricting insurance coverage for abortion services, excessive restrictions on medication abortions and a host of unnecessary regulations on the state’s clinics that would likely force them to close.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) signed a bill Friday that requires women seeking abortions to obtain an ultrasound and mandates that doctors performing abortions have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles, prompting opponents to quickly take legal action in hopes of blocking it.

Women said universally that hookups could not exist without alcohol, because they were for the most part too uncomfortable to pair off with men they did not know well without being drunk. One girl, explaining why her encounters freshman and sophomore year often ended with fellatio, said that usually by the time she got back to a guy’s room, she was starting to sober up and didn’t want to be there anymore, and giving the guy oral sex was an easy way to wrap things up and leave.
