Obama: Being Responsible Means Not Caving To GOP Hostage Taking (VIDEO)

October 8, 2013 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

GOP Hostage Taking

President Obama gave a news conference on the GOP hostage taking a few minutes ago. Most importantly he laid out some facts that he wants American to know. He wants American to understand that the Republican Party are provably the ones that are being intransigent and unreasonable.

The president justifiably implied in his comments that this GOP hostage taking is an attempt to overturn a law they were unable to overturn by winning at the ballot box. The President said that the Democrats have already acquiesced to the Republicans. They left funding at the Republican level. The Republicans submitted numbers at sequester the sequester levels of just over $980 billion The President wanted $1.2 Trillion while the Democratic Senate wanted $1.02 Trillion.

The President said he will not allow GOP hostage taking to force him to make compromises at the barrel of a gun. He said this is not a precedent he is standing up for just for his presidency but for all presidencies going forward.

The President had an excellent sound bite that encapsulated the GOP hostage taking failed gamble.

The president said the following.

Think about it. The only reason that the Republicans have held out on negotiations up until the last week or so is because they thought it was a big enough deal to force unilateral concerns out of Democrats and out of me. They said so. They basically said, “You know what? The President is so responsible that if we just hold our breath and say we are going to threaten default then he will give us what we want and we won’t have to give anything in return.” Again that’s not my account of the situation. You can read statements from Republicans over the last several months who said this explicitly. And so for them not to say well it won’t be a big deal if it happens, that’s not how they have been acting over the last couple of month. If it is not a big deal then why would I give them concessions now to avoid it? It is a big deal. And nobody should be getting concessions for making sure that the full faith and credit of the United States is retained.

President On GOP Hostage Taking

The President seemed resolved like one has not seen in a long time. He indicates that he will not cave to the GOP hostage taking. This level of spinal fortitude will ensure the GOP think twice before attempting such a vile act again.
