Senate Goes Nuclear
The Senate has finally gone nuclear. It will take a simple majority for the President to get his judges confirmed. The Senate for all practical purposes have been a non-functioning body. The chart below took Majority Senate Leader Harry Reid over the edge. The change in Senate rules because of an obstructionist and intransigent Republican Party was the only thing to do.
So what was Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s response? “You will regret this,” warned McConnell. “You may regret it a lot sooner than you think.”
GOP feared President Obama, a decidedly center left Democrat would pack the courts with Liberals. They should remember, he was elected to do just that twice. Their denying him is denying democracy. If they want Conservative judges, they should try winning.
The Senate will hopefully be a functioning body going forward. Though, it is likely that the filibuster will have to be examined going further for legislation.
One hopes that the President will appoint real Liberal judges instead of centrists. After-all, today’s centrists are nothing more than appendages to the corporatocracy.
