Actor Jennifer Sky’s Own Story Makes Obamacare Her Passion (VIDEO)

Jennifer Sky tells why she is passionate about Obamacare

Jennifer Sky is an former model and actress (General Hospital,CSI Miami, etc.). She is also a fiction/non-fiction writer, and contributing editor to various magazines. She is an avid supporter of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). She has good reasons personally and empathetically.

Jennifer Sky says she has received her healthcare insurance from Obamacare for the last three years. Before Obamacare, she was uninsurable because of a past surgery, a pre-existing condition. Her story is not unlike many others. What makes her story powerful is that it could happen to her after doing everything seemingly right. She is using her platform to inform.

Jennifer Sky felt a sharp pain in her side a few years ago. She was taken to the hospital by her then husband. Her diagnosis was a benign liver tumor. She was injected with experimental treatments for four years in an attempt to cure her. She eventually found a surgeon that was able to remove the tumor. The tumor was the size of a football. Over the years her healthcare cost exceeded over $1 million.

Jennifer Sky and her husband divorced after some years. Their agreement left her on his health insurance policy. After various MRIs and a minor surgery, Jennifer Sky was informed that the old insurance she was using was no longer covering her.  Her ex-husband’s business manager had made a filing error that caused her to lose her COBRA coverage.

She went back to New York to go to school. Because the school had insurance that covered all the students, she was able to purchase the limited coverage that many schools offer. Not until Obamacare, which offered the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) as  a stopgap measure till the full implementation of Obamacare, was she fully covered.

This is the story of millions. Yet very little news coverage is given to what could afflict many who think they are covered. Jennifer Sky is able to reflect back to how medicine is practiced elsewhere. She saw first hand how even a foreigner is treated in a country that has universal healthcare. She has  written about her experience in New Zealand and how it contrasts with America’s inhumane healthcare system.

Here is my own story. I was successful in using healthcare.gov to get my wife who has Lupus, a pre-existing condition, my daughter, and me onto the same insurance policy for the first time in over a decade.
