Matthew Sowders admits he strangled Melissa Sowders

According to court documents, a witness told investigators she came to Matthew Sowders’ apartment the day Melissa Sowders disappeared, and when he opened the door, the witness saw what appeared to be a woman’s feet and lower legs lying on the floor of the apartment.
She says Sowders shut the door before she saw anything else.
Another witness told investigators Matthew Sowders came to her home on the evening of December 26 and confessed to killing his estranged wife. She said he was soaking wet and his truck was covered in mud. She also said Sowders told her he had strangled his wife after she pulled a gun on him.
Prosecutors say he told that witness he stuffed her into a large trash can and transported her to Cypress Creek, where he disposed of her body.

ABC13 reports that a body found in Cypress Creek near the residence of Melissa Sowders is likely her. The family said they were sure it was in fact Melissa Sowders after detective requested information on her tattoos.
Texas EquuSearch was about to call off the search because of weather. They decided to try once more and were successful in recovering the body.
Matthew Sowders and Melissa Sowders were high school sweethearts. They were estranged. She was pregnant with her new boyfriends child.
According to ABC13 earlier today,
Melissa Sowders, 26, vanished on December 26 after meeting Matthew at a McDonald’s on FM 1960 where she was supposed to pick up their four children. The sheriff’s office suspects foul play and is searching for her body.
So we asked what Matthew Sowders says happened that day.
"How did things end that day that he saw her? How did they part ways?" we asked.
"I can’t make any comments on the police investigation. If there is anything, I’ll let them reveal that to the media," Neyland answered.
We also asked why we aren’t hearing from Matthew himself.
"If he had nothing to do with it, what does he have to hide?" we asked.
Neyland answered, "He doesn’t. He’s already talked to police." …
Matthew Sowders’ attorney says the man is grieving and comforting the couple’s four children through this tragedy. …
On Monday, they seized his truck and are processing that as the investigation continues.
Melissa Sowders’ family said they were relieved that she was found. They have several questions about what happened.
Matthew Sowders was arrested after Melissa Sowders was found. He has been charged with capital murder.
