Lies, Damned Lies, Hypocrisies, & Consequences by Terry Broussard

January 31, 2014 By Egberto Willies

Terry Broussard

A senator appears on a Sunday morning talk show and states that not only did his party not shut down the government but that he voted to keep the government open, apparently unaware that a modern convenience called “video of previous statements” existed in which he called the shutdown a great success. A party which has built its reputation on “family values”, “fiscal austerity”, “small government” and “law & order” remains eerily silent as candidates and office holders are accused of extramarital affairs, criminal activity, fiscal profligacy and rampant government expansion.

And yet they are not alone. Despite the evidence demonstrated by financial scandals a decade earlier, a democratic president, having ridden into office on a catchphrase of “I feel your pain” lays the foundation for enormous individual and corporate pain due to the repeal of Glass Steagall legislation, laying the foundation for the apocalyptic financial collapse to come. Today, the very president awarded a Nobel Peace Prize within months of his inauguration has overseen the vast increase in both the scale and scope of unmanned drone attacks in sovereign nation states, fueled by the paranoia / security complex’s desire to root out and destroy “threats”.

And it doesn’t stop there. Every year, politicians from the left, right and middle both placate and alarm the simple minded with faux concerns about the “looming deficit”, knowing full well that not only do they intend to do absolutely nothing about it but fully intend to add substantially to it, bringing us to the central, most critical problem this country faces. And despite the propensity of some to pretend that this is a recent phenomena, this country, our country has borrowed money to finance its operations since 1789.

Although the scale and pace of that borrowing has accelerated and slowed many times since then, we are approaching an entropic event in that at some point our capacity to borrow will be curtailed if not eliminated. It is this addiction to spending beyond our means that endangers our country, accelerated by the perspectives of those who eschew the funding of the activities of government.

So what are the consequences? That the mis & disinformation proffered further fracture and paralyze our union. Where once our nation was the personification of “e pluribus unum” or “semper fidelis”, all too frequently citizens proudly display “ex pluris mei” or “semper ego” perspectives.

Which generation will be the one that finally has the courage to change the course? Which will be the one that witnesses our inexorable decline to a second rate power? Which will be the one that witnesses our collapse? Stay tuned.
