Judge Andrew Napolitano had a very Ron Paul ‘esque’ statement on Republican President Abraham Lincoln, slavery, and money. After listening to his commentary one must ask where lays his morality, decency, and humanity.
This type of orchestrated misinformation is responsible for much of the divide in America. It is no accident that it finds a home on one of the corporatist networks. After all, if the masses remain divided, the survival of the plutocracy is guaranteed.
The following is the snippets of the transcript.
At the time that he was the president of the United States, slavery was dying a natural death all over the western world. It had just been expired by a legislation n England. It had just dies a natural death. That is, it was no longer economically feasible in Puerto Rico and Brazil. And the southern plantation owners were on the cusp of dying here. Instead of allowing it to die or helping it to die or even purchasing the slaves and then freeing them, which would have cost a lot less money than the civil war cost, Lincoln set about on the most murderous war in American history.
Over seven hundred and fifty thousand soldiers and civilians, all Americans, died. That’s more people killed as a result of American military action in one war than in all wars combined.
That of course spawned Jim Crow. That of course spawned the Ku Klux Klan. That of course spawned the need for a Martin Luther King.which was a good end result from that. But the so called freedom that Lincoln thought he was bringing, wouldn’t come about for another hundred and twenty five years because of its birth in violence and its birth in government violence rather than its birth in the natural progress of human freedom. …
Lincoln soldiers, burnt court houses, robbed banks, raped women, destroyed crops, killed civilians and they were lauded for it as heroic. And they did this to their fellow Americans. This is hardly something out of which a myth or godlike stature you would expect to come. And yet it did because of the demonizing of the South.
Instead of attempting to refute Judge Andrew Napolitano and rehash reality I will simply direct you to this well written piece by Ta-nehisi Coates. That said, it is abhorrent that Andrew Napolitano seemed so unaware of the crude inhumanity of his statements.
Slavery is simply wrong. Why should taxpayers be responsible for compensating those who have profited from the abuse, violence, and enslavement of other humans? Should a pawn shop get compensated when stolen products they’ve purchased is confiscated for return to the rightful owner?
Andrew Napolitano is concerned about the Americans who died in the Civil War. Should he not have been concerned about the enslaved humans who were abused and killed for over 250 years then?
Most obscene is Andrew Napolitano’s statement that the KKK, Jim Crow, and the need for an MLK was the result of the attempt to get said freedom via “government violence rather than its birth in the natural progress of human freedom.” Many of America’s wars were embarked on based on the pretext of effecting freedom. How many Iraqis died under said pretext?
Andrew Napolitano is attempting to give a moral rationale to an inexcusable tenet. Fox News gave him the platform to do so.
Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show justifiably mocked Andrew Napolitano for his attack on Abraham Lincoln with a ridiculous argument.
