Jon Stewart epic takedown of the sexist news media and beyond (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart sexist sexism news media

Jon Stewart shows a very sexist news media

Jon Stewart did it again. But why did it take so long to come up with such a readily available montage? The double standard in the media based on gender is prolific. When John Stewart showed incidences side by side it is downright upsetting.

In the video snippet above Diane Feinstein’s objection to the NSA’s actions is met with condescension by former CIA director Michael Hayden. He characterizes her as being emotional. The same applied in Governor Chris Christie’s Bridgegate investigation. Bridget Ann Kelly was characterized as emotional and dependent on the approval of men.

Jon Stewart showed a Senator Hillary Clinton tearing up in a touching moment during the New Hampshire campaign while running against then Senator Barack Obama. It was expected that the men at Fox News would express their bravado. They did. What was disconcerting was that even the women at Fox News were on the attack. They made it seem that crying was a sign of weakness.

Jon Stewart soon after showed a snippet of Mitch McConnell not tearing up but weeping on the Senate floor. He showed Darrell Issa crying at a rally. He showed the Congress’ most prolific crier, John Boehner, barely able to speak while crying. Generally the coverage of these was not spoken of in the context of weakness but of showing compassion. In fact he later shows a montage defending men crying.

On the flip side Jon Stewart showed how women being assertive are treated. They are referred to as angry and worse.

Just as the media displays a negative bias on women, it does the same with minorities. Who can forget during the Katrina hurricane aftermath minorities taking groceries from stores were described as looters while non-minorities as those taking to survive. Jon Stewart did a similar expose on this a few months back.
