Climate Change denial
Jon Stewart had an epic and funny piece on climate change on Thursday. He showed the impossible position the President and all those who want to do something about climate change are in.
Jon Stewart starts out by stating the fact that many in the GOP ignore climate change science. He then shows several Congress people and Senators claiming that global warming (climate change) is a fraud or a hoax. Some claim it is a Liberal show for their donors.
“The Republicans are not going to fall for Liberals’ words,” Jon Stewart said. “Yesterday they finally got to hear the fact from some of their own.” Four former Republican EPA heads urged lawmakers to take action on climate change. They worked for President Nixon, both President Bushes, and President Reagan.
Former Nixon EPA Administrator said that while there can be legitimate debate over the pace or effects of climate change, there is no legitimate debate that it is occurring and partially manmade. Former Bush EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman said the issue is settled. She said the EPA does have the authority to regulate carbon emissions. She said the law said so and the Supreme Court said so.
Jon Stewart then shows inasmuch as these prominent Republicans came out to state the facts, die hard climate change deniers were still comfortable in embarrassing themselves with their continued denial or obstruction.
The nature of the Senate and the a gerrymandered House makes it next to impossible to work on climate change through legislative methods. The executive, President Obama, has some control using the EPA and his executive authority. Unfortunately because Congress controls the purse, much of it can be undermined.
Jon Stewart shows the lack of professionalism and objectivity of those supposedly serving in the best interest of America. The reality is America can do much better. America must do much better. America must vote anti-science anti-middle class centric politicians out of office.
