Watch Conservative Columnist David Brooks tells why ‘the Republican Party still has a monumental problem’

David Brooks Republican Party Monumental Problem

David Brooks explains the fear Republicans have for the Tea Party

The Traditional Media may have gotten the message. Today they did not populate the airwaves again with the neocons that were consistently wrong about the Iraq war. They seemed to resort a bit more to doing some reporting instead of cheerleading America back into war.

David Gregory covered many topics on the chronically lackluster Meet the Press today. He covered among other stories, Iraq and the GOP manufactured IRS Scandal. When discussing immigration and the toxicity of the issue in the Republican Party, the following snippet was prescient.

David Gregory: You take immigration. You take environment. You take some other issues as well where the Tea Party is really out of step in our polling with the rest of the Republican Party to say nothing of the broader public. How does a candidate get nominated for that Party.

David Brooks: Fervor matters. And people are scared of them. And so I do think they’re going to be loath to challenge that fervor especially in primary campaigns. So I think the Republican Party still  has a monumental problem. Until the establishment can rally, until you can actually get a Blue State Republican Party, until you can get different centers of power of equal fervor, and so far that doesn’t …

E.J. Dionne: The problem for the establishment is they need to challenge the Tea Party and they clearly have strong support within the Republican ranks, among the non-Tea Party folks, but they’re scared to death to do a frontal challenge and say let’s  have this fight.

Both David Brooks and E.J. Dionne are correct on the dynamics of the Republican Party. Unfortunately the will to make a change is not yet there within the Republican Party. The country will suffer until citizens get the savvy to vote them out and force the necessary catharsis that will enable several viable parties.
