Why is Tea Party mad that Black voters helped Thad Cochran win?

June 24, 2014 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

Thad Cochran wins as Chris McDaniel complains about ‘Liberal Democrats’

Thad Cochran did it one more time. He won. The media once again called it wrong. They got spooked by Eric Cantor’s loss to Tea Party candidate David Brat. They all in lock stock and barrel sang the same narrative.

Twitter exploded with tweets like the following.

In Mississippi Cochran campaign had phone recordings to Dems trying to get their vote making promises to support Obama. Corrupt elections,

Thad Cochran was running for a statewide office. Why should it be wrong for him to fight for the votes of every Mississippian?

Another post said the following.

the only reason Thad Cochran won tonight was because democrats switched parties to vote for him. Its disgusting. http://t.co/6gdde58lvs

No. it is not disgusting. It is democracy at work. It is amazing how few in the Tea Party were concerned when Democrats did this in the David Brat trouncing of Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

“Before this race ends we have to be absolutely certain that the Republican  Primary  was won by Republican voters,”  State Senator Chris McDaniel said. “There is something unusual about a Republican Primary that is decided by Liberal Democrats.”

In Mississippi ‘Liberal Democrats’ is code word for Blacks in the context he used it. Unfortunately for him, Thad Cochran did make an appeal for those voters. The interesting thing is that those voters came through for him inasmuch as he has done little for their causes.  Hopefully now he will given that his victory is a testament that inclusivity wins.

Everyone should agree with the following sentiment.

The real winners tonight are black voters in Mississippi who realize once again that there is strength in their votes. #Cochran

For a long time many Blacks, Browns, and others in the South believed their vote was inconsequential. They were made to believe that. The new voting suppression laws in many of these states were put into effect because many understand that there is a sleeper in America. That sleeper is the multitude of those people who do not vote, not only Blacks and Browns and other minorities, but all who for a long time believed their vote did not count. Recent primaries are proving otherwise.
