Texas State Comptroller Candidate Mike Collier speaks at 2014 Harris Democrats County Conference

September 7, 2014 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

Mike Collier shows why he is the most competent candidate running

Mike Collier illustrated in three minutes why he is the most qualified candidate running for Texas State Comptroller. He was well received by the audience composed of Harris County Democratic precinct chairs and Democratic activists. He acknowledged Kingwood and Humble, his hometown crowd as he always does.

“If you don’t get the numbers right you cannot get anything right,” Mike Collier said. “Do you remember when Heger cut education, $5.4 billion. That was on a basis of a bad forecast. The comptroller simply didn’t do her job. Maybe it was an accident. Maybe it was intentional. But if you get the number right then you’ll start to see a change.”

Mike Collier then went on to detail the shenanigans that Republicans play. These shenanigans have a material impact on the education and economic well-being of every Texan. “They took five billion out,” Mike Collier said. “… So they put three back. … Here is a little accounting lesson. Think about the kid who reaches into someone’s pocket and pulls a five dollar bill and decides he doesn’t want it, calls him up and says I promise to give you three back. And the when he is finished he gives you a dollar and says I’ve restored it. Have he restored it? No!”

Mike Collier went on to say that Texas has a lot of money. He said when he gets in there Texans will find out. He said when Texans find out they will demand better schools. He went on to state that his opponent and his Republican Party wants to get rid of the property tax which will in effect triple the state’s sales tax.

Mike Collier said that this election really matters. He said he is proud and honored to be on the Democratic ticket. “Compare the two tickets,” Mike Collier said. “… Do you see any diversity on that ticket? No. Do you see any women on that ticket? No. Do you see them bringing us anything that we want? Cuts in education. Tripling our sales tax. No. Now look at our ticket. Do you see diversity on our ticket? Yes. Do you see men and women on that ticket? Yes. And our ticket comes complete with its own CPA and that’s me. Thank  you very much.”

Mike Collier is the right candidate for the job. If Texas elects Glenn Heger, likely the most unqualified candidate for the position of Texas State Comptroller, it would be a costly mistake.
