Jon Stewart encapsulated the enhanced political gamesmanship know engulfing Congress. His chosen title fits perfectly as all the machinations in Congress is generally to take positions irrespective of whether passage of a particular bill is even possible.
Jon Stewart shows Congressional dysfunction in its full glory
Congress is no longer an effective legislative body. It seems the only bills they are able to get together on in a bipartisan manner are bills to fund wars and bills to help bankers and the wards of the American plutocracy.
To our current Congress, ISIS / ISIL, several thousand miles away, is an existential threat that warrants immediate bipartisan support. However, we cannot get a bill to increase minimum wage to ensure a living wage for our most vulnerable. Where is the morality?
A few months back a bipartisan Congress actually voted to replenish Israel’s Iron Dome missiles while unable to pass emergency long term unemployment compensation. When one hears Congress talk about the American people and what they want, they are not talking about the average American citizens. They are talking about those that have lobbied them and paid them to be harmonious in passing laws that benefit the few.
Jon Stewart piece simply tells the story of the game these politicians are playing. We must create the story that stops the reality he illustrates. Many think it is not possible for the average American to have an impact. That is what lobbyists, brokers, bankers, and the wards of the plutocracy would like you to believe.
The fact is that if Americans vote in November completely contrary to the conventional wisdom, it will instill a fear that will be effective. The current modus operandi is to use the media to frame opinion. Poll its effectiveness. Then adjust the parameters to effect the brainwashing for a desired outcome. This was successful in framing America’s new support for a war footing again in the span of several months.
If that cycle is broken, those that control the media, those that control the politicians would have lost the certainty of their methodology. The power would then return to the citizens as the politicians would know the citizens will hold them accountable for results.
Your vote matters. Vote on November 4th for the candidate that will make a difference. Do not vote for the candidate stoking your fears Make this Jon Stewart piece valid no more.
