Watch House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi slam media sexism for suggesting she step down (VIDEO)

Nancy Pelosi attacks media bias against women

Nancy Pelosi appropriately lashed out at a rather tone deaf question from a reporter.

“On your own leadership after Democrats lost seats last week in the election,” The reporter asked. “I wonder if you gave any thought to stepping down as the leader and what you thought when you decided to stay on.”

What is most disconcerting is that the reporter that asked the above question was a woman. It was as if the reporter was just parroting mostly male beltway punditry.

Nancy Peloci as usual was ready for the question.

“What I said to the most recent person who asked is,… I said, ‘What was the day that any of you said to Mitch McConnell when they lost the Senate three times in a row … Aren’t you getting a little old, Mitch? Shouldn’t you step aside?'” Nancy Pelosi said. “Have you ever asked him that question? I don’t understand why that question should even come up, I’m here as long as my members want me to be here, as long as there is a reason to be here. I’m not here on a schedule, anything except a mission to get a job done. I am so proud of the confidence my members have placed in me. My life and who I am is not dependent on being here. So I have the liberty of ‘If you want me here I am happy to be here. If you don’t I am proud of what we have done together ‘

But it is just as interesting as a woman to see how many times that question is asked of a woman and how many times that question is never asked of Mitch McConnell. … And I say that kind of thinking I have a mission for women on this score. When we won the house, and that was largely an initiative that I started around two thousand to take us to a place where we would win the House — that was a big thing — I was never on the front of Time Magazine even though I was the first woman to do it. Wasn’t that a curiosity that the Republicans win, Boehner was on the front of Time Magazine. Mitch McConnell wins, he is on the front of Time Magazine. Is there a pattern here. … As a woman, is there a message here?”

Yes Nancy Pelosi, there is a message there. It is the same message the media has given to President Obama. It is the same message they’ve given to State Senator Wendy Davis. It is the same message they give to Democrats as a class. Some need not apply.

The media as a tool is only as effective as we allow it to be. Continuous push-back and ultimately its disregard as most people use alternate sources will force its hand lest its demise.
