Watch QVC host argue whether moon is a star or a planet. Really! (VIDEO)

The moon is a star? or a planet? Really?

This was likely the funniest video I have seen in a very long time. QVC host Shawn Killinger & fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi argued about the definition of our closest planetary partner, the moon. They debated whether the moon is a star or a planet.

“And look at this one. This is what we call emerald but it is more like a sea foam,” Shawn Killinger said. “It almost looks like what the earth looks like when you are a bazillion miles from the planet moon, …”

“From the planet moon,” Isaac Mizrahi said. “From the planet moon.”

“Isn’t the moon a star?” Shawn Killinger asked.

“No! The moon is a planet darling,” Isaac Mizrahi replied. “oooh.”

They kept going back and forth. Killinger correctly pointed out that the sun is a star. Mizrahi had no idea what the sun is. He however was absolutely sure that the moon is a planet.

At least Killinger had some knowledge about the solar system. She remembered that the moon never appeared in the enumeration of planets. She forgot that a star had its own light source unlike the moon. When they were informed of the moon’s real identity they were both in shock.

Staff informed them both that the moon is a natural satellite.

“The moon is what?” Killinger asked. “The moon is a natural satellite? What does that mean? Is that what Google said? No. I don’t like that at all.” WHAT?

All the while Mizrahi was sticking to his conviction. “But things live on it,” Mizrahi said. “That means it’s a planet.”

In keeping with the tenet that our blogs will always be truthful and informational we will do our civic duty and provide some science education. Our schools are sure failing.

Definition of objects in our solar system

Star: Any one of the objects in space that are made of burning gas and that look like points of light in the night sky

Planet: A large, round object in space (such as the Earth) that travels around a star (such as the sun)

Satellite: An object (such as a moon) that moves around a much larger planet

Moon: The large round object that circles the Earth and that shines at night by reflecting light from the sun or a large round object like the moon that circles around a planet other than the Earth.

Asteroid: Any of the small rocky celestial bodies found especially between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter

Meteor: A piece of rock or metal that burns and glows brightly in the sky as it falls from outer space into the Earth’s atmosphere
