Love thy racist neighbor?
I really had to think twice before posting this one. Was there a larger good to come out of posting this? What about posting it in raw form?
Ultimately I posted it because I recalled a conversation I had with one of my Tea Party buddies at Starbucks yesterday. He told me he believed the out of wedlock births in the Black community did more harm than all the “perceived racially motivated killings” by cops. He then said he remembered that a few years back I had told him that as old as I am when stopped specifically by white police officers I am always concerned and uncomfortable. He said, “Everybody is scared and uncomfortable when stopped by police.”
Another friend of mine was in Starbucks. He was itching to get into the discussion and I could see him on the verge of exploding. I looked at him indicating that he should simply allow me to let my Tea Party buddy continue talking. You see, I prefer giving people maximum latitude because that is how I get them to trust me enough to reveal their most inner prejudices, their most inner thoughts. At that point I am not Black, Latino, and Caribbean. I am a blank sounding board. It is amazing how much you learn from just listening.
I had good answers for my Tea Party buddy. I will blog that at a later time.
My real purpose for showing this video that displays a blatantly racist neighbor, a White woman’s behavior against a Black family, is because my friend’s theories are based on his and his ilk’s belief that Black people’s perception of racism is in their heads. They believe it is a mask for Black’s own irresponsible behavior (note that if one normalizes for socio-economic conditions, behavior and social conditions among races are pretty similar).
My Tea Party friend thinks racist acts by Whites are the exception. In the wake of cell phone videos many are realizing that what they thought were perceptions of those others have always been a demonstrable reality of of those others.
When I walk into Walgreens at night and you hear a code on the PA I must be paranoid. When I am followed in Sears I must be paranoid. When my home was fire bombed I must have been paranoid. It is because of my lived experiences that a pleasant experience with a Houston police officer elicited this reaction that was instrumental in the officer receiving a commendation.
Watch the video. It is graphic and has a few obscenities. Mostly it is a display of a carnal hate few ever allow to get outside their psyche or comfortable domain. 9News reported that the 51 year old woman was charged with a race/hate crime. What is amazing is when asked if she was sorry for what she did her answer was completely unapologetic. “I believe they shouldn’t be here. .. I’m tired of feeling like I’m a minority in my own country.” It seems like this irony is repeating itself throughout what use to be the British Empire.
Some of the Facebook messages under the news report gives me hope.
Kelly Osgood “Because I’m tired of feeling like I’m a minority in my own country”…Please, we are all just temporary residents on this earth, those imaginary borders don’t entitle anyone to anything, we are all flesh and blood beings…equals!
Vanda Bacich I’ve organised Citizenship Ceremonies for the last 13 years and so many of those who come from war torn countries in Africa are the most polite and grateful people you could meet. They have escaped unimaginable horrors in their own countries and are so happy to be given the chance to live in Australia. They sometimes cry with happiness at their Citizenship ceremonies and they dress in their absolute finest clothes for the occasion, even dressing their children in suits and beautiful dresses. This woman is an ignorant (insert expletive here) and I feel very sorry for those who have to live next door to her! She is a disgusting example of a human being.
Blessing M Zolciak Did she just said “in my own country”? That’s when the dumb comes out… She said go back to your country okay we might pack up our luggages and leave BUT how about if aboriginal person tell her Go back to your country, where would u go?
She is ignorant to the point of No return.
Fix it Jesus
Melondy Kimble-Buck How dare she call someone a savage . Why don’t you check your history. The unspeakable savagery the British and their Anglo-Celtic Australian spawn unleashed upon Aboriginal Australia included the ‘sport’ of burying Aboriginal babies and children up to their necks and then kicking the heads until decapitation.
Wazżâńå Bãumāñ Éłlîs This isn’t even her land this land belongs to the Aboriginals the traditional owners of this land
Branden Holmes An aboriginal should do that to her. It cuts both ways.
Natasha Stewart Omg SHE feels like a minority in HER OWN LAND lol try being Aboriginal in Australia.
Suzie Yalcin Why is this her country?… What an idiot! Unless you’re aboriginal, you should shut the hell up!
