Luis Lang, the anti-Obamacare Republican wants to renounce his Party on TV

Luis Lang now has 20/20 vision on Obamacare

While my first article about Mr. Luis Lang was very critical, this one will not be. Why? You will see my rational as you read.

Last week moderate and left wing sites introduced many to Luis Lang. Who is Luis Lang? Luis Lang is a 49 year old self-employed handyman. He works with banks and the federal government to maintains foreclosed properties. He and his wife Mary live in a 3,300 square-foot home valued at $300,000 in the Legacy Park subdivision in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Mr. Luis Lang was misled like many others to loathe Obamacare. He had a pay as you go approach until the headaches he had turned out to be several strokes. Moreover, he began to lose his eyesight.

Lang attempted to get Obamacare after the fact but he missed the sign up deadline. He subsequently set up a GoFundMe account to raise money for his healthcare. Most of those donating to Lang were Liberals. They lambasted even as they gave, some very generously.

BTW, I support giving this man a helping hand if you can. That is by definition a Liberal stance. I gave a small nominal donation. Now I receive emails when he add updates.

His last update said the following.

I would like for all of my wonderful supporters to go to this link. This has been the first reporter that has told my side correctly. Now to put things straight I never said that I did not like or blamed president Obama for what has happened. In fact both me and my wife have very close friends that are gay. And they are upset by some of the comments by people who have never met us and passing judgment on us. Also like I said in the interview I would like to rip up my voters registration on TV. I have reach out to msnbc and abc in new york and waiting for them to call me back. In the mean while if you would call them and demand that they put it on national tv it might help. Either way as soon as I know when it will happen I will post it here to let you know. Please go to the link so what I am saying will make sense to all [sic].

In the well worth reading ThinkProgress article, Luis Lang said he read almost every message received on his GoFundMe site. This part of the article is important.

Lang joked that he might be the most hated Republican in the country right now. But he also said that, thanks in part to a flood of media attention that led him to learn more about health care policy, he doesn’t identify with the GOP anymore.

“Now that I’m looking at what each party represents, my wife and I are both saying — hey, we’re not Republicans!” Lang said. He added that, though he’s not a political person by nature and has never voted solely along party lines, he wants to rip up his voter registration card on national television so Americans will have proof that he’s making the switch. …

He said he “one hundred percent agrees” with the people who commented on his crowdfunding page to argue that health care is a human right.

“In fact, I have some eyesight jokes for you,” he added. “This whole thing has helped me see more clearly. Like they say, hindsight is 20/20.”

Many will continue to excoriate Luis Lang. Has he seen the light only because he was materially affected? The answer is yes and no. Had this not happened to him, he would not have changed. However as he stated, the input from many Liberals who entered his domain and exposed themselves gave him the latitude to examine his perspective versus reality. He accepted reality unlike Arizona County Sheriff Richard Mack who had a similar story.

Most Americans will change if you can earn their trust. The space must be created to allow that trust to build. Our Plutocracy tries to deny us that space by creating false crises after false crisis that prevent many the time or space needed for logical analysis.

Luis Lang was forced into a space and his mind was sufficiently opened to change. It is our job to find that crack in all of those that are misled. Think about the country we will have then.
