Senator Elizabeth Warren really let her Republican colleague have it
She did it again. She was at times brash. But she was fact based and completely correct. Senator Elizabeth Warren justifiably let her Republican colleagues have it. "Do you have any idea what year it is?" Warren asked. "Did you fall down, hit your head, and think you woke up in the 1950s? or the 1890s? Should we call for a doctor?" And there is more! Women and men alike must be proud of this Senator's bold unabashed and unapologetic stance for progressive values, American values.
This floor speech was specific to the Republicans' attempt to defund Planned Parenthood. The defund Planned Parent movement has even entered the Republican President Primaries in full vogue.
Elizabeth Warren's speech should be used as a baseline in fighting this attack on affordable women's healthcare provided by Planned Parenthood. Her speech does three important things. First, she excoriates those who would allow their ideology to materially and negatively hurt the health of millions of women. Second, she truthfully articulated the fact that no government funding is used to provide abortions through Planned Parenthood, a conflation that the Right is attempting to mislead with. Third and most importantly, she identified the myriad of services provided by Planned Parenthood, the vast majority of it having absolutely nothing to do with providing abortions. She points out the necessary care women and men receive from Planned Parenthood they can get nowhere else.
Unlike the timidity shown by many Democratic and other Liberal politicians, Elizabeth Warren is providing a service to Americans by speaking out. She is boldly cutting through the plausible misinformation many Progressives fear confronting. She does that by first embracing her progressive values, America's progressive values. She does not allow it to be distorted. In fact she gave a great speech at Netroots Nation 2015 where she used fact based numbers to prove her values, Liberal/Progressive are where the American values are. Make no mistake, she is fighting and she is right.
