Ted Cruz is not making selecting a new Speaker any easier for the House
Ted Cruz, the new Joseph McCarthy, is doing everything in his power to maintain an intransigent GOP. In a speech today he made several claims that must be examined.
“We were told if only we had a Republican House, things would be much better,” Ted Cruz said. “Millions of us rose up in 2010. We won a tidal wave election. Very little changed. Then we were told the problem is the Senate. We heard over and over again, — its Harry Reid in the Senate — if only we could win the Senate, then finally we can do something. We said OK. Millions of us rose up in 2014. Won 9 senate seats. Retired Harry Reid as majority leader. And won the biggest majority in the House since the 1920s. It’s been a little over nine months we’ve had Republican majorities in both Houses of Congress. What on earth have they accomplished. … It is why people are volcanic.”
Ted Cruz knows much better. He knows that complex bills requires time and a lot of work. The intransigent House of Representatives under Republican control have wasted both. Cruz acts as if he did not read his naturalization papers. He should be well aware that a Democratic President will not allow the dismantlement of his signature agendas. As such if Republicans in the House want to legislate, they must compromise with the President.
The 40 or so Tea Party congresspeople holding the GOP caucus for ransom act as if the constitution is irrelevant. If they want to get 100 percent of their bills passed with 100 percent of their ideas, they must not only win the House and the Senate, they must the White House. Good luck on that one. America will not likely put their well-being at risk again.
