Bill Maher actually hit some interesting points many don’t realize
This is an extremely funny piece. More importantly it has some concepts buried that one should know.
“Someone must remind white Americans that even though other people are winning small victories and making slight gains,” Bill Maher said. “You are not losing. You are still way way ahead. For example before the recession whites had four times the wealth of blacks and Latinos. But since the recession it has gone up. Now they have six times as much. So if anyone should be bitching about wanting their country back, it ain’t you.”
Bill Maher said he brought the subject up after reading the report about the death rates of some white people going through the roof. Maher use the skit to show that even as some whites may believe they are having a hard time, in context it pales in comparison to others in similar situations.
Bill Maher pointed out that inasmuch as blacks use weed at the same rate as do whites, the incarceration rates are dissimilar. Blacks get much more severe sentences. He points out the difference in treatment at stores because of preconceived notions. He even touched on the disparity with which blacks are treated by cop.
The skit is well worth watching.
