Bernie Sanders scolds media then gives robust message (VIDEO)

December 29, 2015 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

Bernie Sanders let Chris Cuomo have it for the media

Bernie Sander slammed the media for their terrible election coverage. He did not allow Chris Cuomo to minimize their complicity in Donald Trumps ascent.

Chris Cuomo asked Bernie Sanders to what was Donald Trump’s popularity in the polls attributed. He had the perfect response.

“Well Chris, You’re gonna have to ask the media precisely why,” Bernie Sanders replied. “Trump is a smart guy. He’s a media guy. He had a TV show. I’ll give you one example. A recent study showed on ABC evening news, Trump over a period of time got 81 minutes of time. Bernie Sanders got 20 seconds. Now you tell me why. And I think it has to do with the fact that Trump is very smart. He knows that media is not so interested in the serious issues facing this country. They love bombastic remarks. They love silly remarks […] I think this is more of an indictment of the media actually than it is of Trump.”

Chris Cuomo attempted to justify Trumps coverage based on polls. Sanders would have none of it.

“But Chris, explain to me how he becomes number one,” Sanders argued.  “He boasts of the fact…He says, ‘I don’t even have to pay for commercials. The media’s going to put me on all of the time.'”

One hoped that Bernie Sanders would have also brought in the chicken and the egg argument. In other words the media infatuation came before the poll numbers. The media’s inability to call out Trump early on has virtually inoculated him from media criticism.

Bernie Sanders did not use his air time solely to complain about the media. He used it to effectively get his message out. Anyone who listened to it had to have felt the sincerity and the recognition of what ails America. Not only income inequality, but the immorality of the current implementation of our economic system was articulated in a palatable form. He has firmed up his stump to best use the airtime he gets and has become very effective at it. Watch the video. It is very telling. Do remember to share. Since Democratic debates have been minimized, it must be conducted in the social media domain.
