President Obama’s speaks about Antonin Scalia’s death
President Obama gave solemn remarks on the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia in the most dignified manner. He as well gave condolences to Scalia’s family and friends. The President said he will be performing his constitutional duty to nominate a Supreme Court Justice very soon. He also said he expects the Senate to do its constitutional duty as well and give his nominee a vote.
Many Republican Senators are already saying that the President should not nominate any Supreme Court Justice. They want it left to the next President. In other words the these politicians that preach about following the letter of the law with respect to the constitution want the president to abdicate his duty.
Earlier Texas Governor Greg Abbott released the following.
“Justice Antonin Scalia was a man of God, a patriot, and an unwavering defender of the written Constitution and the Rule of Law. He was the solid rock who turned away so many attempts to depart from and distort the Constitution. His fierce loyalty to the Constitution set an unmatched example, not just for judges and lawyers, but for all Americans. We mourn his passing, and we pray that his successor on the Supreme Court will take his place as a champion for the written Constitution and the Rule of Law. Cecilia and I extend our deepest condolences to his family, and we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”
