Killer Mike’s plain talk
Killer Mike provided a full-throated rationale for his support for Bernie Sanders and admonished other personalities for inconsistencies if they are unable to relate to and promote Sanders’ message.
Earlier this year Killer Mike introduced Bernie Sanders at a huge rally.
“I have said in many a rap, I don’t trust the church or the government, a Democrat, Republican, a pope, a bishop or those other men,” rapper Killer Mike said. “But after spending five hours tonight, after spending five hours with someone who has spent the last 50 years radically fighting for your rights and mine, I can tell you that am very proud tonight to announce the next president of the United States, Sen. Bernie Sanders.”
Chris Hayes probed Killer Mike about Hillary Clinton vs Bernie Sanders. Mike’s response was prescient.
“Hillary is good enough,” said Killer Mike. “But the policy of enough is enough that we are going to radically change things really seizes people.”
Chris then pointed out that Clinton has been pushing the narrative of Sanders as a single message candidate. Mike turned the narrative on its ear.
“I like his consistency because his talk boils down to the American people,” said Killer Mike. “There is one thing about the American people. When you say you want to talk about racial justice, that is not the same as I want to do something about racial justice. Saying that I want to hold police accountable is doing something. Saying that I want to take money out of politics, big money, is doing something. Saying I want to pay women a fair wage is doing something. And saying that young black people deserve not to be called superpredators but to be engaged from an economic standpoint that gives them an equal opportunity says doing something. I am tired of talking. Fifty one years ago when Hillary Clinton was working on the Goldwater campaign, he was getting locked up for my rights. Fifty years later he is talking about doing something and not talking.”
He could not be more succinct and clear.
