New York City Commissioner William Bratton sets Donald Trump straight
New York City Commissioner William Bratton dismissed Donald Trump’s uninformed statements about Americans’ security and pointed our Americans have more to fear within. It is evident that the commissioner is concerned with the rhetoric coming from the right. He has been speaking up frequently as the two Republican frontrunners continue to put the safety of Americans at risk for short-term political gain. Their racist and Islamophobic statements risk alienating the same people whose help will be needed to fight extremism.
Recently the New York City Commissioner had harsh words for Ted Cruz in a press conference alongside New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio. The Commissioner appeared on CNN’s Don Lemon. Don played clips of Donald Trump scapegoating immigrants.
“Is America a safe place for Americans now?” Don Lemon asked the commissioner.
“America is a very safer place particularly compared to the rest of the world,” Commissioner Bratton said. “We have our incidences, we know. We have had more than our share of mass killings. Some committed by inspired terrorists. But the vast amount committed by American citizens living here who have access to firearms. Newtown was an example of this, all those young children killed by an American citizen. So the bigger threat at the moment is from our own citizens than from those abroad.”
And there you have it. The inconvenient truth for Donald Trump that should have been brought to the forefront by the mainstream media months ago.
