I found this woman’s rant about Jesse Williams’ rant at the BET Awards refreshing. I explain below.
Glenn Beck opinionist takes on Jesse Williams’ BET Awards rant
Glenn Beck’s the Blaze TV conservative host Tomi Lahren gave an extensive rant, dissecting Jesse Williams rant at the BET Award piece by piece. While I completely disagree with her characterization of his rant, I found her spunk and willingness to engage on the subject refreshing. Too many times a dialogue is stunted because:
- A white person unable to engage out of fear of being called a racist,
- A white person being unapologetically racist,
- A black and/or white person unable to give each other’s comments the benefit of doubt,
- A black person overreacting to a statement made out of complete ignorance,
- A black person assuming ill intent unjustifiably
Must I continue with the permutations? You get the point.
I believe Tomi Lahren believes what she is saying. As well, I do not believe she is a racist. I think she projects what she feels, onto white America in particular. In other words, she views the world through a lens colored by her insular being.
She cannot envision that officers really treat people of color differently. She believes that because there are wealthy people of color that they have nothing to complain about. She felt slighted because Jesse told folks who see things through her colored lens to sit down if theyr are not a part of the struggle. She took exception to Jesse pointing out the exploitation of people of color.
Tomi’s willingness to engage unabashedly on these subjects leads me to believe that she can be enlightened. The points she makes are plausible within the bubbles she lives in. Anyone who encourages her to break those boundaries will likely cure her of her ignorance. I have seen young people like her converted into the best allies and advocates for real racial, social and economic justice. Maybe she will consider coming on my show Politics Done Right. Tomi, are you game?
