Bernie Sanders supporters can be proud of their accomplishment.
Hillary has indeed listened to Bernie
Bernie Sanders delegates should have left the convention feeling that they are victors in the message even if not the candidate. Losing is hard no matter how it is sugar-coated. Every Sanders delegate that I spoke to felt that pain, the pain of knowing that their candidate was more in line with the ills that ail the nation. Moreover, given that this is the year of the insurgent, the year of the anti-establishment candidate, Sanders would have matched much better with Donald Trump than Hillary will.
But that is water under the bridge. It is a new day. We face a new reality. Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump will be the president of the United States. Bernie Sanders supporters will have to decide if they want to make a statement by voting for anyone but Hillary or support her as a candidate that more closely will implement the values we all fought for throughout the fall, spring, and summer.
The Meet the Press clip above informs us of the leftward shift Hillary has taken in her negotiations with Sanders. It is true that these are but words. Irrespective of that, it all start with words. It is incumbent on activist to keep the pressure on the elected candidate by building and growing a movement that provides no alternative but to implement promises lest they are made unable to govern.
So, Bernie Sanders delegates must think carefully as leaders in the movement. They must show those who follow them the path they intend to take and how said path would objectively make the lives of middle-class and poor Americans’ better. I already decided on my path and the path I am humbly advising my followers to take. It is imperative that we all make the right choice.
