Netroots Nation 2016

Netroots Nation 2016

Netroots Nation 2016 was one of the most eventful Netroots Nations as the organization refocused on social, economic, and racial justice issues in a more intentional manner.

Protests, civil disobedience taken by Netroots Nation 2016 in partnership with others and more

  • As soon as I got into town I was informed that Black Lives Matter was having a rally and march to bring awareness to women of color who have been killed by police officers as well. The leaders of the event said it is a reality that goes unnoticed as most of the talk is about black men killed by cops. [Story here]
  • Former Ohio Democratic State Senator & Bernie Sanders surrogate Nina Turner, and Democratic Georgia State Senator Candidate Tamara Johnson Shealey, and I took an Uber to Ferguson just outside of St. Louis to visit the place where Michael Brown was killed. It was kind of surreal. [Story here]
  • Netroots Nation 2016 participated in various protests in partnership with Black Lives Matter. The freeway next to the stadium was shut down for 4.5 minutes to represent the 4.5 hours Michael Brown’s body laid in the hot sun inhumanely like a dead animal. [Story here]
