John Oliver did not mince words as he decimated modern journalism
John Oliver completely called out today’s journalism
John Oliver used the 2015 film Spotlight as the basis of admonishing the sorry state of today’s journalism. It makes the blood boil.
Oliver pointed out that print journalism is disappearing. If there is one statement that puts it into context is the following.
“Between 2003 and 2014, the number of full-time statehouse reporters declined by 35%. It is clearly smart for newspapers to expand online, but the danger in doing that is the temptation to gravitate towards whatever gets the most clicks.”
In other words, we are not given the news as it occurs, we are given increasingly easy to digest meaningless stories. Listen to the entire clip. It is eye-opening.
