Supporters of the pro-life ideology display an inconsistency that one must address.
Pro-life is anti-choice
Pro-life is a misnomer. Anti-choice is a better name. Many pro-lifers are of the ideology that believes in the capital punishment and military engagement.
I felt compelled to segue from the topic of my Politics Done Right radio show (on Facebook) today. I was discussing Donald Trump’s new campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway. She was very critical of him during the primaries. One of her critiques included the one where she slammed Trump’s assertion that women should be punished for ‘illegal abortions.’
The reality is that Trump is more intellectually honest with the stance he took. If you believe an unborn fetus is a life, then a woman who gets an abortion is at least an accessory to murder.
I do not believe that an unborn fetus is a life. I think until it is unattached from a woman it is a part of the woman’s body. Since I believe all women like all men own their own bodies, no one including the state can legislate actions against that body.
But I went a bit further in my segue. I pointed out that many pro-lifers (anti-choicers) support state sanctioned murder, capital punishment. They support policies that ultimately cause the death of many of their fellow citizens (e.g., those who do not support the Medicaid extension to the Affordable Care Act).
It is time to get intellectually honest. It is time to call out those that purport to be moral yet support policies that are immoral and inhumane.
