A Latino Trump surrogate apparently had a slip on MSNBC as he equated the immigration problem with a taco truck on every corner.
Latino Trump surrogate concerned about a taco truck surge?
A Latino Trump surrogate told MSNBC ‘s Joy-Ann Reid that there would be a taco truck on every corner absent Donald Trump’s immigration policy. He blamed it on the dominance of the Mexican culture.
Joy-Ann Reid asked Mario Gutierrez, founder of Latinos For Trump if Trump’s speech was akin to the Republican Party’s Goldwater moment. His answer was shocking.
“Donald Trump is a genius of delivering the message,” Gutierrez said. “Yes, it was a tough message to deliver. But he did it in a way that showed us we have a problem. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, different times, different problems. … We need to understand that this is a different time. We are having problems here.”
Reid asked him what problems specifically. His response was astounding.
“My culture is a very dominant culture,” Gutierrez said. “It’s imposing, and it is causing problems. If you don’t do something about it, you are going to have taco trucks every corner.
Joy-Ann Reid was taken aback. She said she did not understand what that meant. But Gutierrez continued.
“The Spanish never conquered Mexico,” Gutierrez said. “We are a culture that, we bring a lot of good things to the United States. But we also have problems.”
Another Latino on the show reminded Gutierrez of the welcoming Latino culture and more. Gutierrez maintained his self-hating stance.
“I think you haven’t been to Mexico for a long time,” Gutierrez said. “And that is the problem that you guys have all, La Raza. … You guys defend a Mexico that doesn’t exist anymore. There is a new Mexico that is rising with crime. We need to stop that. And it starts right here.”
Joy-Ann Reid ended the segment warning Gutierrez that the votes he is hoping for may never materialize given the Trump narrative.
