My conversation with a Donald Trump supporter (VIDEO)

A Donald Trump supporter called into my Politics Done Right with Egberto Willies show on KPFT 90.1 FM Houston. It went much better than many would think.

Some Donald Trump supporters will entertain a conversation

Not all Trump supporters fit the profile or stereotype that many of us placed on them. Some of them only want to know that someone is listening.

The subject of my Politics Done Right show on Thursday was “Sticking it to Hillary is like burning down your ‘own’ neighborhood – Make your vote matter” which garnered a whole lot of calls. I got several calls from Donald Trump supporters. This one stood out because it was evident this person felt persecuted in his circle because he was shut down without getting even a hearing.

Politics Done Right did two things for him. It gave him a platform to say what he was not able to say in his social circle. At the same time, that gave me the opportunity to earn a foothold into his thinking process which made him receptive to another point of view.

Imagine if we made the effort to talk and reach people’s real fears. It is true that there are some unredeemable deplorable people. However, it is much more likely that the vast majority of people including Trump supporters are good people with a thin wall that is a defense mechanism they were scared into believing they need to protect them from the rest of us.
