This story is another big hooray for Joy-Ann Reid. Donald Trump had the gall to call out Jay-Z’s lyrics at one of his rallies. Joy-Ann played the infamous clip that made the critique moot and then she let Trump have it as she brought up an incident few Americans knew about until recently.
Joy-Ann Reid calls out Donald Trump’s Jay-Z critique
Joy-Ann Reid did not give Donald Trump a pass when he criticized Jay Z’s lyrics. She reminded the audience of his obscenities and objectivation of women.
“Last night Jay-Z and Beyonce showed up in Cleveland, and they actually gave back life to that city and to the Clinton campaign potentially in Ohio,” Joy-Ann Reid said. “They were really amazing, right? So, in response to that my ‘Who won the week’ is going to be rapper Luther Campbell. And the reason I say that is going to be rappers with dirty lyrics won the week. Because this was Donald Trump’s reaction to the fabulous, amazing, mini-concert put on by Jay-Z and Beyonce last night in Cleveland.”
Joy-Ann Reid then played a clip of Donald Trump at one of his rallies slamming Jay-Z.
“We don’t need Jay-Z to fill up arenas,” Trump said. “We do it the old fashion way. We fill them up because you love what we are saying. And you want to make America great again. I actually like Jay-Z but you know the language last night. He used every word in the book. I won’t even use the initials because I would get in trouble. They [the media] would get me in trouble.”
Reid would have none of it.
“Donald Trump has a problem with Jay-Z’s language,” Reid said. “Okay. Because Jay-Z is a hip-hop guy. I want to remind America. The guy who has a problem with Jay-Z’s language, this is his language.”
Joy-Ann Reid then played a clip from Trump’s infamous ‘grab them by the pu$$y‘ video. Her words afterward should be sobering for all.
“Jay-Z has said a lot of things in his songs,” Reid said. “But he has never said that, Donald Trump. And by the way, this is the exact same week that Luther Campbell, who was the first person I interviewed for my Daily Beast column, and actually was kind of sympathetic to some of the economic arguments made by Donald Trump, came out this week and did an interview that was reprinted in XXL in which he recalled going to a party at Donald Trump’s house back in the day. It was so wild; he had to leave. He said he was there with Mike Tyson, Eddie Murphy, and others. Luke says in this article; Uncle Luke says that he thinks it is quite rich that people who complain about his language back in the day Toure, have a problem with him, have a problem with people like Jay-Z, but don’t have a problem with Donald Trump’s potty mouth.”
Enough said.
