This Ex-CIA officer believes the 2016 election was so compromised by the Russian involvement that a do-over is needed.
Ex-CIA officer wants an election do-over
CNN intelligence analyst and ex-CIA officer Bob Baer believes a new election is required because Russian involvement compromised its validity.
“The Russians, it looks like to me did interfere in our elections,” Bob Baer said. “We will never be able to decide whether they changed the outcome. But I tell you, haven worked in the CIA if we had been caught interfering in European elections, or Asian elections, or anywhere in the world, those countries would call for new elections. Any democracy would. I don’t see it any other way. I mean the electoral college before the 19th has got to know whether the Russians had in effect, whether they went to WikiLeaks, whether they hacked emails, and whether they affected American opinion. And he had a good reason to go after Clinton. Putin hates her for the Ukraine.”
The moderator asked how would a new election work and whether it is plausible.
“When a foreign country interferes in your election and the outcome is in doubt and the legitimacy of the government,” Baer responded. “I don’t know how it works constitutionally, I am not a constitutional lawyer. But I am deeply disturbed by the fact that the Russians interfered.”
Baer said that if the evidence is there, he sees no other way than to vote again. He said if the CIA must sacrifice sources, it must, given the severity of what occurred.
I am not sure if I agree with a do-over. What I do know is that for various reasons, Trump’s legitimacy is in question. As such he must not be allowed to change policies drastically as he is attempting. He does not have a mandate and his legitimacy is in doubt.
