Houston held several rallies on Sunday to build support to save the affordable care act. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee presented a striking admonition to Republicans for their attempts to repeal the law.
Houston Rally to keep Obamacare
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee did not mince words as she excoriated Republicans who are risking the lives of Americans by repealing Obamacare. The rally was well attended even with the threat of inclement weather. It is clear that many are now scared that Obamacare repeal is a distinct possibility.
Following the rally, the Congresswoman gave the media contingent an extensive interview. The interview was striking because she was not afraid to talk openly. She even took questions that were not the most civil for the particular environment.
Congresswoman Jackson Lee used the first part of the rally to point out the positive realities of Obamacare. She laid into Republicans for wanting to repeal without any other viable options on the table.
The Congresswoman did something that is badly needed in this debate. Throughout Obamacare, there have always been personal stories. They simply were not highlighted consummate with the real impact of the law on people’s lives. The rally had very hard hitting personal stories that would touch even the worse opponent of the Affordable Care Act.
People from all walks of life had stories of how the law saved their lives. Most importantly, a few doctors from the world renown Houston Medical Center spoke and made the case that the law should not be repealed.
I am confident that if the Democrats organized similarly to the TEA Party in 2010, Representatives of Congress would be scared into the correct decision. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee must be commended for sticking to Obamacare’s defense not just now but throughout its passage. Democrats will have to grow their long overdue spine and fight in a manner their constituents can respect.
