Constituents swarm Houston country club hosting GOP Texas Rep. John Culberson (VIDEO)

February 22, 2017 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

Texas Congressman John Culberson hid behind the safety of the iron gates of Houston’s Lakeside Country Club as protesters swarmed the entrance to the elite club.

This lady gave the most spirited interview at the John Culberson protest

The video above is in a playlist of several videos you can select

A couple of grassroots organizations planned this protest by posting it on Facebook and sending out a few emails. It came together organically in just a few days. They advertised the event as follows.

This is a joint event hosted between #ResistHouston, Greater Houston Democrats and the Human Rights Campaign.

John Culberson thinks he can skip out on a town hall meeting with his constituents during his break from Congress. Although people have emailed and called his offices to find out when he will have time to listen to the concerns of his constituents, no public event has been scheduled…unless of course you are one of the lucky ladies of The Village Republican Women. They had the honor of hosting him at an exclusive country club where “John will share highlights of what to anticipate from DC”.

We need to let Country Club Culberson know that our voice deserves to be heard as well.

The protesters stood on the sidewalks outside of the Lakeside Country Club and sent John Culberson a friendly reminder of who voted him in and who will be voting him out if he does not meet with us and hear our concerns with what is going on in our country.

While at any given time there were about 150 people on the line which occupied both the lawn on the left side of the entrance to the country club and down the Wilcrest street for some distance, there was heavy rotation with several people coming and going throughout the four-hour event.

A much smaller counter-protest of Trump and Culberson supporters appeared on the other side of the entrance.  Several of them were open carrying with pistols hanging from their waists as if it were the wild west.

I interviewed many of the Culberson protesters as well as a few of his supporters on the other side of the street, that appears in the playlist above interview with a Latina broke my heart. My discussion with an ‘open carry’ gun-all-of-the time advocate concerned me because of his ability use enough factual data to skew reality which would persuade many.

The protest was peaceful. Republicans better watch out, however. Unlike the war-on-women marches a few years ago in Texas, there is a new group of protesters. And who is this new group? They are people who have never protested before but are activated and ready to make a difference.
