Joy-ann Reid on Trump: His voters hated the Obama but they liked the care (VIDEO)

March 25, 2017 By Egberto Willies

Sorry, there was a YouTube error.

Joy-ann Reid points out what Paul Ryan and Republicans failed to realize about their narrow win. Moreover, these realities are at odds with their ideology. Reid nails it.

Joy-ann Reid hits the nail on the head

Joy-ann Reid has a way with words. Her deconstruction of the Trump voter, in a nutshell, was masterful. Had Trump understood it Trumpcare would be different.

“The thing that Donald Trump said last year that negates everything he tries to say today is ‘I alone can fix it,'” Reid said. “In that statement, he acknowledged that he knows that Washington is broken, processes are broken, and he said ‘I alone can fix it.’ But what I think is stunning Chris about today is that it turns out that the Republican Party learned absolutely nothing from the election of  Donald Trump, including Donald Trump. Donald Trump won in the Rust Belt in those states saying he was going to repeal and replace Obamacare because at the time we thought he understood that his voters hated the Obama, but they liked the care. They didn;t see him as the guy who was going to come and cancel their Medicaid. They thought he was Daddy Warbucks. They thought that he was going to just cancel undocumented people’s Medicaid, that they don’t get. They just assumed he was going to get all the brown people to quote, stop taking what is theirs. But that they were going to keep their stuff. They never thought he was running to be Paul Ryan. Donald Trump decided to make common cause and marry the establishment he just got through, beating. He decides to get in bed with Ryan whose got this generational life long dream of ending the social safety net. Donald Trump didn’t run on that. He ran on ‘I alone can fix it.'”

Extrapolating Reid’s statement presents a problem for Trump’s policies going forward. Paul Ryan and establishment Republicans’ desired policies are anathemas to the people who gave Donald Trump his Electoral College win. That does not bode well for getting anything done in Congress. Ironically the gridlock will be caused not by inter-party wrangling but by Republican intransigence just as it has been under President Obama. The failure of Trumpcare is probative.
