This display was one of the best soliloquies given by a politician against Donald Trump and his Right Wing enablers I have heard. Maxine Waters was necessarily aggressive and composed as she laid out the case against Trump and many of his ‘patriotic’ minions.
Rep. Maxine Waters takes no punches
Anybody listening to Maxine Waters today should hope that more Progressive politicians would be as tenacious as she is in fighting the destructiveness of the Right Wing and its institutions. Maxine Waters did not pull any punches when she excoriated both Donald Trump and Bill O’Reilly in her appearance on All In with Chris Hayes.
Hayes started by playing Congresswoman Waters on the House floor pointing out how dangerous Donald Trump is. In that speech, she said many who claim to be patriotic aren’t so given what they’ve allowed from Trump. She said it is Progressives who are fighting to maintain our Democracy.
“You are not nearly as patriotic as we are,” Waters said. “And my mission & my goal is to make sure that he does not remain President of the United States of America.”
The clip containing those words were played on Fox News where Bill O’Reilly made a disparaging comment about Water’s appearance. Chris Hayes asked her if she wanted to respond to O’Reilly.
“No, I am not responding to him,” Waters said. “First of all let me thank Hillary Clinton for standing up for all women and in particularly for black women. And let me just say this. I am a strong black woman. And I cannot be intimidated. I cannot be undermined. I cannot be thought to be afraid of Bill O’Reilly or anybody. I’d like to say to women out there everywhere. Don’t allow these Right Wing Trump talking heads, these dishonorable people to intimidate you or scare you. Be who you are. Do what you do. And let us get on with discussing the real issues of this country.”
She went on to slam the credibility of Bill O’Reilly and Roger Ailes. She immediately moved on to make the case against Trump and his policies, foreign and domestic, and his collusion with Russia. She said he is destroying our relationship with our allies and hurting Americans with his attack on the social safety net. She said the investigation would likely prove he colluded with Russia during the election.
The resistance must continue. One cannot go wrong having Maxine Waters as an ally.
