In a panel discussion where they discussed Ivanka Trump on moving women’s issues forward, a Trump apologist made a striking statement about the reason why women are paid lower than men.
Trump apologist on women issues is a woman?
The Trump apologist, Conservative columnist Kristin Tate, made it clear that the difference between the Right and the Left on women’s issues are vast.
Tate said that the best thing Trump can do for women is to allow businesses to flourish with pro-business policies. Stephanie Ruhle asked her what those policies are. Ivanka touted her father’s statement of creating 25 million jobs and that women would be part of that. Of course, that is not a plan that that helps women equitably.
Ruhle then pointed out that President Obama wanted big business to disclose the compensation of their employees by gender, the Republicans punted.
“Where is she an advocate for women in business specifically,” Ruhle asked.
Tate deflected the question and answered in a rather damaging manner.
“When we are talking about the gender pay gap,” Tate said. “A lot of that is because choices that women make. We choose to take maternity leave. We choose to take more time off. When women make the same choices as men in the workplace, they do get paid the same as men, generally speaking. But then again.”
Tate then went into the standard trickle down mode. She said Trump wants to lower the corporate tax rate.
In the GOP world, all financial and social ills are fixed by given tax breaks and lower taxes to corporations. It is sad that this Trump apologist is saying womanhood is a disadvantage. I see it more as a society gives men a privilege because they are not biologically burdened to carry a child. They do not have to suffer the man-imposed disadvantage of an environment that caters to that reality. And they can hide from the reality that we should step up and be a partner in the human life cycle.
It is time for society to wake up and extricate itself from this damaging patriarchy sometimes supported not only by men but by a sect of women.
