Bill Maher called out Rick Santorum for lying about a statement from Obama’s EPA Director and then gave him a ‘Sexual Harassment Network’ aka Fox News out. But Maher goes on to make an important point about lies, Trump, and the GOP.
Bill Maher did not allow Rick Santorum lie to go unchallenged indefinitely
One wonders why Republicans continue to go on shows and lie even when it is evident they will be found out. Rick Santorum learned that again.
“Last week Rick Santorum as you guys know was on our show,” Bill Maher said. “This happened even before he was on our show. Rick, I appreciate you doing the show. I like Rick Santorum. But he said ‘If the EPA Director under Obama said the clean power initiative would have no effect on CO2 emissions. You could look it up.’ We did. Okay. Here is what Gina McCarthy — that was the EPA Director — said. ‘She said, I am not disagreeing that this action, the clean power initiative, in and of itself would not make all the difference. Would not make all the difference. In his warped world becomes ‘it would have no effect.’ Now I don’t think Rick Santorum is lying on purpose. I think Rick Santorum’s sin is most Republican’s sin. They live in a bubble. They only see sh$t on right wing blogs, and websites, and Fox News. But this alternative fact nonsense did not start with Trump. It started a long time ago at the sexual harassment network.”
It is essential that we understand that. It is easy to blame Donald Trump for all that is bad on the Right right now. The reality is that Trump is but a magnifying glass with a bright light. We should remember that Trump has no core. He has no intrinsic value system. He is like a bland food, like tofu, which takes on the flavor of whatever surrounds him. He is but the monosodium glutamate of the Republican Party. If we understand that we will resist appropriately. We are not fighting Trump. We are fighting what Trump is a medium of, a failed and evil ideology that was around before Trump and will out live Trump.
