Chuck Todd went on a rant about Donald Trump pushing the media on sidetracks. He seems to forget the media is supposed to be independent and is responsible for calling out and not falling for manipulation by politicians.
Chuck Todd’s rant forgets that the press in America is independent
As one listened to Chuck Todd chastise President Trump for playing the media, one wonders when the press will remember its constitutional position. The host asked Todd if he believed the president was really considering firing Robert Mueller. He used the question to segue into a rant.
“The fact of the matter is he fired James Comey, ” Todd said. “So I think we already know if it’s something he believes he can do, he’s going to ponder it. Now I think Mr. Ruddy brings up a very interesting aspect to the president which is he does like to live his life with exit ramps; always having an out, always making sure. Is he serious about it or is he just letting the cloud hang over there? Does it give his supporters, you know sometimes it’s about giving his supporters a talking point.”
Todd then showed a lack of understanding of the power of real journalism.
“Again the focus on Muller means the focus isn’t on Russia,” Chuck Todd said. “And I have to say my frustration right now is we still, this whole, we are on a side trip here because the president is trying to slow down the investigation into the specific allegations of what Russia did. But he’s pushed us down a sidetrack here of his own doing which suddenly we’re now talking about obstruction of justice and whether there’s an abuse of power situation going on but we’re not, it’s a sort of a sidetrack because we’re not talking about the central issue which is, ‘did any Americans help the Russians infiltrate our election?’ That’s the investigation. That’s where I don’t understand why the president doesn’t say, ‘I want to get to the bottom of this too and compartmentalizes it.’ And every day that he doesn’t do that he raises suspicion. Again it’s his own doing on this front.”
Well, Mr. Todd, you are complicit. The entire mainstream media is complicit. They have allowed Donald Trump to play them all through the election because they were hungry for the ratings he brought from his stupefying antics. Unfortunately, the media allowed the charade to continue and now seem unable to get out of the cycle where Trump continues to dictate the narrative instead of the media behaving as an independent press should.
